Journey to our Dream Home Pt. 1
In 2019
I (re)met my now husband. A causal girl’s night out turned into finding my Prince Charming. Cliché fully intended- the rest is history.
My friends and I spent the evening enjoying drinks and bar-hopping the newest rooftops and cocktail lounges in downtown Denver. Towards the end of the evening, I looked up and made eye contact with a familiar face, someone I hadn’t seen since high school. (Not to date myself, but it was nearly a decade ago at the time!)!
The next morning, I received a message asking if I wanted to meet up, and I jokingly said “no,” because the instant connection I felt with him honestly frightened the hell out of me. But it’s true when they say you know, you know.
We knew from the moment we reconnected in person that we had found The One. We were married 3 months later in a beautiful mountain-side venue 4 days before Christmas. The ceremony was officiated by his father and we had a very small reception and guest list. It was perfect.
- Now for the home -
Jordon found the home we live in currently on Redfin, and we instantly knew it was going to be ours. Nestled in a peaceful suburb about 20 miles north of downtown Denver, he quietly moved ahead with purchasing the home and getting settled in a month before the holidays.
Me on the other hand, for the first time in my life, I had my OWN apartment in downtown Denver’s up-and-coming Highlands neighborhood. I’ll spare the details, but I held on until January because I had such an attachment to that apartment.
When we finally settled in to where I lovingly nicknamed “The Boonies,” the house felt absolutely HUGE. Too big. I was used to maintaining a small apartment of less than 600-700 sqft and having a maintenance company remove my trash and mow the lawn.
Over the past 2.5 years
I have found joy in up-cycling wood furniture and thrifted about 80% of the larger furniture items we own. We only bought 2 pieces of furniture together: the master bedroom bed frame and the formal dining room table. Everything else came with us from our apartments. Or I thrifted it from Facebook marketplace or a thrift store!
